Message
from the Director As
we enter into another New Year of 2007 and the end of our typhoon season, I
would like to thank the CNMI residence for all of your cooperation and
understanding throughout the past year of 2006. We have experience some
events that have required an evacuation of the coastal areas, tracked
potential storms but fortunately that no major incidents, disasters, or
events have occurred throughout 2006. As
we begin the first month of 2007, we here at EMO would like to remind all of
you to continue to always be prepared and think safe throughout this year.
Remember
to have an EMERGENCY PLAN for you and your family. Have your DISASTER
KITS ready (just in case) AND ALWAYS BE PREPARED. Under
the Office of the Governor, Emergency Management Office is tasked as the
central coordinating office for the implementation of the CNMI Emergency
Operations Plan (EOP) in responding to and recovering from an emergency or
disaster, and other relief efforts. Also,
a comprehensive Emergency Management Office consists of implementing the
planning of hazard mitigation, preparedness, and response and recovery
activities and programs for emergency of all kinds (all hazards). All
emergency related programs or activities is not solely the responsibility of
a single agency or department, but an integrated multi-organization function
that involves all levels of government agencies, American Red Cross (NMI
Chapter), private companies or sectors, and volunteer organizations. With
this multi-organizational function, the performance, effectiveness, and
coordination of EMO are increased in responding to and recovering from any
emergency-related situation in the CNMI in regards to public needs and
assistance with the utilization of all available resources. The
Governor, Lt Governor and myself recognize and appreciate the valuable
contributions of all government and private sectors and the volunteer
organizations for their unselfish efforts in providing emergency assistance
to disaster victims in the CNMI in providing essential services to victims
regardless of eligibility for any federal or state assistance. We
also recognize and appreciate our local community for taking the time in
educating your family and yourselves the importance of being prepare for any
such incidents or disasters. We
